Maintaining our aircrafts
22. What is the Maintenance Schedule of Our Planes?
At Athey's Moor Flying School, the safety and well-being of our students, instructors, and passengers are our top priority. To ensure that all our aircraft are in peak condition, we adhere to a rigorous maintenance schedule that goes above and beyond the standard recommendations.
Routine Maintenance:
Our planes undergo regular maintenance checks after every 50 flying hours, as recommended by the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). These checks include a thorough inspection of all critical components, including the engine, airframe, control systems, and avionics. Any wear and tear, no matter how minor, is addressed immediately to prevent any potential issues.
Periodic Maintenance:
In addition to routine checks, we perform comprehensive servicing at intervals that exceed the industry standard. This includes a full inspection and overhaul of the aircraft at 100-hour intervals, ensuring that every aspect of the plane is scrutinized. We also carry out an annual inspection, regardless of flying hours, which includes detailed checks and testing of all aircraft systems.
Pre-Flight Inspections:
Before every flight, our instructors conduct a thorough pre-flight inspection. This includes checking fuel levels, oil levels, control surfaces, and a complete walk-around of the aircraft to ensure everything is in optimal condition. We leave no stone unturned to guarantee that every flight is safe and enjoyable.
Special Attention to Critical Components:
Certain components, such as the engine, propeller, and avionics systems, receive additional attention. These parts are serviced and tested more frequently to ensure they are functioning perfectly. For example, our planes' engines are inspected after every 25 hours of operation, well beyond the typical industry standard.
Documentation and Compliance:
All maintenance activities are meticulously documented, and our aircraft logbooks are regularly updated. We comply with all BMAA and CAA regulations and ensure that our maintenance practices meet or exceed these requirements.
By adhering to this stringent maintenance schedule, we ensure that our aircraft are not only safe but also reliable, giving you peace of mind every time you take to the skies with us at Athey's Moor Flying School.
